How to Prepare Your Bowling Center for Maximum Fun and Profit

Spring Break is a huge opportunity for bowling centers. Many people associate spring break with beach vacations, but it’s also a time when families, school-age kids, and even college students are looking for fun activities close to home. Bowling centers have a unique opportunity to attract these groups by offering exciting promotions, adjusted operating hours, and engaging entertainment.

Spring break isn’t just about students—working parents need solutions too. With schools closed, childcare centers often fill up quickly. This presents a fantastic opportunity for bowling centers to offer field trip packages that keep kids entertained while parents work.

The first key to success is planning ahead. Make sure you have school district and university calendars handy, so you know exactly when spring break happens in your area. This allows you to time your marketing campaigns and promotions effectively.

Spring break brings in a diverse crowd, so your offerings should reflect that. Here are some targeted ideas:

  • Morning Sessions for Childcare Centers – Many daycare centers look for activities to keep kids busy. Offer group rates for early morning bowling, making use of typically slow hours.
  • Midday Fun for Families – Parents with kids home for the week will be looking for easy entertainment. Bundle bowling with lunch specials to encourage longer visits.
  • Evening & Late-Night Sessions for Teens & College Students – Consider glow bowling, music-themed nights, or social media contests to draw in the older crowd.

Another important thing to consider is adjusting your hours & staff accordingly. If you normally open in the afternoon, consider extending your hours during spring break. With more traffic expected throughout the day, you’ll also need extra staff. Also don’t forget to stock up on food, drinks, and shoe rentals (especially small sizes for younger bowlers!). Since many spring break visitors may only come to your center once or twice a year, it’s crucial to make a lasting impression.

Here are some ways to make your center stand out:

  • Themed Contests & Games – Use your scoring system’s built-in features like Lucky Train or Lane Lotto to engage guests.
  • Social Media Challenges – Run a “Spring Break Selfie” contest where customers post photos from your center, and the most likes win a prize.
  • Spring Break with Character – Introduce a “Build Your Character” contest where guests match a character that you choose to win fun rewards. We have included a social media piece that will help promote this contest. https://bit.ly/SpringBreak_FB

Once your promotions are set, start marketing ASAP! Utilize social media, email newsletters, in-center signage, and even local partnerships to spread the word. The earlier you promote, the more successful your event will be. Spring break is a golden opportunity for bowling centers to boost revenue, attract new customers, and create memorable experiences. By planning ahead, adjusting hours, engaging all age groups, and offering exciting promotions, you’ll set yourself up for success.
